“Integrity and courage in conviction is what I first think of when I think of Dave. Dave has both in spades. I had the pleasure of working with Dave in a variety of capacities whilst I was at TLRG over the course of three or so years, and know that this is core to his belief system. Dave doesn’t engage in politics. Dave is straight up and you always know where you stand. This is extremely healthy in a leadership team. I can think of many examples where Dave did the ‘right’ thing by people and the organisation even though it was the more difficult option. This is often refreshing working in an environment where the temptation is ‘massage the message’. This is also what makes Dave an excellent at director level software engineering. Executing at this level in an organisation requires in depth understanding of how things really work as well as the courage to make the tough decisions to make them happen, and Dave possesses both. On the technical side, in my experience Dave can when needed by exceptionally hands on. Dave just gets stuck right in and Dave has the ability to switch into ‘crisis mode’. No-one wants to have a technical issue but when they occur, you definitely want Dave about! Regardless of what the issue is, Dave will really own the problem and see it through to completion. Dave has exceptional focus on what’s important to a company (i.e. the systems are up and able to trade). On the morale and office environment front Dave has an excellent Baywatch outfit which he occasionally wears to work and I suspect wears at home when no-one is looking. I say this to illustrate that he has a good sense of fun which he brings to the office to make work enjoyable. This is really important when you lead a team 70+ ! Dave is a great asset to any company where technology is core to the business – arguably in 2015 this is almost any company - and to drive engineering practice in any large company. I would and hopefully will work with Dave again. ”
